Correct parts for a 1911A1

Gentlemen,
I am currently rebuilding a Remington Rand 1911A1 (Sn:21509XX), and i will find all correct parts for this pistol, Which i pretty much already have. But I'm having a bit of trouble researching the correct Slide Stop and Thumb Safty. In Clawson's book he states that later model RR used grooved slide stops and thumb safties. So my question to you gentlemen is.
At or about what serial number range did RR make the switch?
Does my late model RR fall into the catagory of the checkered or grooved parts?
I appreciate all of you knowlege gentlemen.

Since your gun was made in 1945 (next to the last batch of Remington Rand made) I would think it would certainly fall in the "later" category.

I'd go with grooved.

That having been said, the chances of any GI firearm having ALL of the original parts it left the factory with, is extremely small!

Well, it does happen. What I find rare is picking up parts for M1911A1's with the original finish. Doing a complete restoration with matching, original finish, parts is a great challenge; I'd like to see Cody's final results.

Personally, I settled for a refinished Mixed Parts Mongrel:

Once this pistol is complete i do intend on refinishing it. My goal is not to try and find all original "correct" finish parts.
So yes this will be a mongrel shooter.

And thanks for the clarification XRACER, that is what i was thinking. But while i was on "coolgunsite.com" i was looking through his "guide" section. And all the RR's that he had on there (even the later model ones) had checkered slide stops, so that really through me for a loop. But i guess i will go with the the grooved.
