Winchester 94

Hello Bert,
I recently obtained a Winchester model 94 carbine,serial number 1762061,caliber stamp .30-30 Win., serrated hammer, flat checkered steel butt plate, short fore end wood, not tapped for receiver sight, blank upper tang. I'm hoping this Winchester is from 1951 also my birth year, am I close? Thanks, Greg LaHaie

    I have the chance to buy a Winchester 94 like new in box from my brother. He said he has fired about 8 rounds through it. It's got the cross bolt safety and is .45 LC. I think it's a trapper because it's short. He said he would take $350 for it. How much is it worth now and how much will it be worth now that they wont make them anymore?

    The date of manufacture is circa late 1907 to early 1909.

    Bert,where do you get your mfg.dates? I got mine from the "Blue Book" and "Winchester Dates of Manf. 1849-1984 1 of 1000" [:)]

    Hello ATF,

    F'jestad's Blue Book is nothing more than a copy of George Madis' published reference (as are most other authors and web based serial number sites). I get my data directly from the Cody Firearms Museum archives. As a long time member of the Cody Museum, I have researched thousands of Winchester serial numbers over the years, and I have the Factory letters, Cody Yellow sheets, and now, a Faxed letter from the Records Office. In over 90% of the Model 1894 serial numbers that I have researched, George Madis' serial number list has been off (to early) by an average of 19 months[:(]. The higher the serial number, the farther off his lists are. For the Model 1885 Single Shot, his published listings are off by as much as 12 years for the later made rifles[V].
