What is .22 Extra Long?

I saw it listed on an auction for an old Rem. When was it made?

Does anyone have a pic next to a LR?

  .22 Extra Long, Introduced in 1880...Produced up to 1935. Obsolete since then. It was longer than the Standard .22 Long Rifle..and cannot be fired from a standard .22 Long Rifle Weapon...No mention of the exact overall Length listed in My Database....As a Cartridge it was not noted for its accuracy...

  Going along with what the Captain posted:
  
  Around 1880 the .22 Extra Long cartridge appeared, powered by 6.0 grains of black powder. It fired a 40 grain tapered heel bullet (the same as the later .22 Long Rifle) at a MV similar to the Long Rifle, but used a longer case than the .22 LR. This cartridge was available in a number of rifles in the late 19th Century. .22 Extra Long ammunition was finally discontinued around 1935.
