SKS ammo, other than Wolf

I had a bullet jam in the barrel of my Norinco a couple months ago. I was using Wolf ammo. This round was loaded with the primer only. Fortunately no harm befell anyone, although my buddy still tried to fire it after he shot the squib round. I haven't used Wolf since but I'm getting tired of paying 3 times the ammo price.
Amybody got any ammo advice for an SKS? I've used Olympic with no problems. I'm looking for somethhing real cheap like Wolf.
Am I being too cautious about Wolf ammo? I got the bullet out alright but I don't want to have to do that again and even more importantly I don't want to catch a face full of shrapnel.

    Your gas tube may need to be replaced. The bolt may have failed to kick back due to a leak in the gas tube.

    Check out www.aimsurplus.com. They have good deals on SKS/AK ammo. As long as you don't mind buying bulk.

    If it was a squib load as you said, there is nothing wrong with your gas tube.

    Squibs can be encountered with just about any ammo from time to time. I recently had one in my belt fed Ma Duce .50. The ammo was the "re-manufactured" Talon brand .50 BMG. The detonation sound was obvious and it did not cycle the action but it put me out of commission until I got home where I could tap the bullet from the barrel.

    Your friend who was shooting the SKS when this happened should be instructed on how to identify the sound difference and not wrack the action and try to shoot again. Squib loads will almost never cycle a semi-auto so there "should" be no danger of firing another bullet into the obstructed barrel.

    I have fired probably 15,000 rounds of Wolf 7.62X39 ammo and never had a squib. I would not get over worried and would continue to use it in my SKS and AK rifles.

    Thanks everybody.
    It was a squib round, the bullet barely got out of the case. It jammed so close that another round could just barely not be chambered. Didn't stop my buddy from pulling the bolt back trying to load another one though. I was off doing something else. I heard about four shots then a muffled shot, I walk back over and he's trying to pull the bolt back and squeeze the trigger. I most certainly used it as an opportunity to educate him amd everybody else as to what could have happened. I ragged seven shades of crap out of him.
    I'm going to start using Wolf again.

    I have a large amount of Norinco which I've used in various rifles over the years with no problems. Paid peanuts - like a few cents per round - for it at a gun show and after trying a few boxes, I picked up several crates the next day. What I have left is packed away, but it is a green box with FMJ / LSC.
