Scope mount Question??
I mounted a 3x9x40mm scope on my M1 Carbine but in order to get the proper eye relief I had to mount both of the cradles on the picanny rail behind the windage and elevation turrets. Will this hurt the scope? The mount is a B Square which mounts over the existing rear sight hole and the sides rest on top above the ejection area.The picanny is only about 4 inches long and when I install the scope with one cradle in front of the turrets and one to the rear of the turrets I am not confortable because the stock is short. I have to pull my head back to get the proper eye relief. What can I do to have the proper eye relief and yet keep one cradle in front of the turrets and one to the rear? I don't want to have to drill and tap so are there any other suggestions? Will the way I have it mounted now hurt the scope?(both cradles aft of the turrets).

You need something called "extension rings". You can use one or two. Point them forward or backward as required. They will give you an extra 1.5 inches of for and aft movement of the scope for eye relief and allows a lot of variation of where the rings are on the scope itself. Go to midwayusa.com and "search" all the different brands. 0 -
I suggest you start all over again. A 3-9X scope is overkill on an M1 carbine.
B-Square makes a clamp-on mount for the M1 carbine that clamps onto the barrel; it works perfectly with a Leupold M8-2x. The only mutilation necessary is cutting a slot in the handguard.

Lets get realistic, you have way to much scope for the weapon. all you need is at max a 4 or 6 power scope, and the 6 my be overkill, considering what the weapon was designed for in distance. 2 ways of taking care of your problem, [1] buy a stock extension for your carbine, about 1 inch, or buy a shorty scope and a true carbine mount that goes in the dove tail groove where your rear sight mounts. need help? contact me , hatchettman2003@yahoo.com 0 -
74man, if you really want a scope on that rifle (because you don't like peep sights or bad eyesight etc.)then you might want to try a 32 or 40mm red dot sight. Just a thought. good luck!

The way you have installed the scope will not hurt the scope and should be fine as long as your eye is not too close. 0 -
No big problem with the scope that way, except that it isnt supported very good if you drop it or bump it really hard.
Use the extension rings like MDSAMS mentioned and your problem will go away. They can be bought with one extension or two.
If the scope (HAS TO MUCH POWER) I suppose you could leave it at 3X [:D]

I disagree with the 3-9 being to much scope. A 3 power is perfect for that gun, and seeing as how 3-9 are more common than fixed power, I think it is a perfect scope. No one says you have to use it on 9.
