Too much dry firing.....
I could note a kind of dimple just above the chamber entrance in a rimfire rifle I just own. It is not deep, but the firing pin has marked enough the steel for insane dry firing [:(!]. It doesn't affect the bullet rim groove but I don't wanna see that thing....can I remove it by just a slight filing job? It is a Remington 580 rifle so the barrel is attached by a couple pins to the receiver...any care to take before disasembling it? Thank you.

Hello dont file any metal you can "IRON" out the demple by taking a round tool steel rod the diameter of chamber and grinding a flat on one side insert into the chamber and then rotate. 0 -
Here is a neat little tool from Brownells for ironing out chamber dents. This is very common in older .22s that have been dry fired a lot.

DO NOT file out that dimple- you will need that metal! You can use the tool, or get a Stanley nail set. GENTLY tap and rotate the nail set until- as the man said- you have ironed the dent out, and the metal is back where it belongs. You may need to use a flat faced pin to bring the ironed dimple back down flush. Easy does it- and remember it is so much EASIER to remove metal OR wood than it is to put it back again!
