WWII German Mauser

I am interested in collecting a WW2 German Mauser in good condition. Preferable one with a scope and SS markings. How much do they go for? I understand the Russians still have warehouses full of German weapons. Is that true? I would also like an SG44. What do these go for and how rare are they to come across in good condition?

    the mauser 98 are excecllent rifles. now about the SS markings and the scope...well, i saw origional scope rings in a magazine and they were close to $900. the gun, PLUS the scope, would make it into a huge investment. but, thats your decision [8D]

    The last STG44 that I knew of for sale was $22,500.00, but that was more than 10 years ago, so the current price would be a little higher. The last 98 sniper with SS markings that I knew of for sale was $12,500.00 and that was only last year, but that somewhat lower than expected because there was some doubt about the originality of the markings. However, having said that, I'm convinced there is one or more out there in some veterans attic waiting to be given a new home. Best of luck. Let us see pictures when you find them.

    Last year impactguns had a STG 44 in almost perfect condition and it sold for 35,000.

    Saw one(STG44) at the last gun show in town going for $18,000. The finish was worn quite a bit and the stock wasn't in great shape.

    Anybody comes through that door, you put two in the chest and one in the head!

    All, Thanks for the info on the WWII Mauser and the STG44. It's a bummer when you have an interest in something and it's way out of your price range. 10k and 20-35k? wow!!!! Maybe someday I'll find one in a dusty attic. Until then....

    You should get a Russian capture K-98. There are a lot of them currently available. Numbers won't match, the bolts are electropenciled. You can still find some with all the Wafenampts intact. They still are a piece of history. They go from $150.-$400.

    In the current Shotgun News (Oct. 31 edition), there is a very informative article on the Russian captured K-98s. A must read.

    Hi All

    Since I came across this post, I will ask the question. I'm currently looking at a Mod 98 Mauser, bolt action, barrel is telescopic shapped. barrel and rec. have the eagle and swaz sticker stamped in them top of the gun has a byf stamped into it any idea's anyone? serial# starts with a 420xxx.

    Not nearly enough info to tell you anything except that the part marked byf was made by Mauserwerk. There are no WWII K98's with a six digit serial number. Five is the most with four numbers and a letter suffix the most common.

    Let me take another look at this rifle, it seems to have numbers all over it, I will get a better description of it.
