M-94 Winchester value.

I bought a nice Winchester M-94 30/30 carbine today and was wondering about the year made and value. It is a top eject model with a dark stock that looks like walnut, checkered metal buttplate, and a Lyman receiver sight on the left side of the action. The serial number is 1,715,xxx. Condition is 90-95%, both the metal and wood. How close is this to being a pre-64? Doesn't it have to be numbered less than 1,700,000? Anyway, I paid $225 OTD. It looks great so even if it isn't collectible, it will make a good deer rifle, especially with the nice Lyman sight. Thanks for any replies.

  Hello TWalker: Well that's about 1950 according to my Maddis book which should be plus or minus about 1 year. so yes it's pre-64. Some winchesters would deduct for the Lyman sight, but at $225. OTD If you are accurate at 95% you got a good deal!!
  
  I'm more into Winchester shotguns, and I'm sure Bert will be along shortly and might be able to give you a more accurate value than I can, he's the rifle expert. However based on what I've seen sell on the net lately, you did real good!

  The break point between pre and post 1964 is serial number 2,700,000. Serial number 1,715,xxx was manufatured circa 1950. The Lyman receiver sight (either a No. 21 or No. 38) could be factory installed, or it may be a later addition. I really need to see several close-up pictures of it to determine if the Lyman sight is original, and what the potential value might be.
