1871 remington and sons double barrel
We recently found a remington and sons 1871 double barrel and were wondering what the value would be one side has had the firing pen removed but the other side looks like it would work. Any info would be helpful.

It appears to Me that You have a Remington Whittmore, Model 1874. Double Barrel Shotgun. Break-open breech attached to frame by two lugs and sliding Bolt....Thumb Piece pushes up to open breech. Has Hammers, lifter action. Barrels are rolled steel. {also came with Damascus Twist} Gauge 10, 12, and 16. {later models have a Matted Rib.}This is the Remington's First Double Barrel Shotgun. Barrels are marked E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N.Y.
Top of Bolt is marked A.E. Whittmore's Patents Aug. 8, 1871, April 16, 1872..
Alden Hatch's Book Remington Arms has a Nice Photo of this Shotgun...You ought to stop at your local libruary and see if they can get a copy for you to peruse....As For value...Without seeing it, I'd hesitate venturing a Guess as to its worth....Hope this helps You.....Best......
