remington 7400-308 quesiton

ok im moving up from a 22!

1. Best ammo to use for target shooting? ( should i use surplus stuff or stay awy from this since this is an autoloader)

2. When loading the first round, the manual says pull the bolt back put the round in the chamber, release the bolt - quesiton is do you let it slam closed?

3. After the first round is in, the magazine is ejected, and then a magazine with four more counds is slapped back in. Question: can you load the gun with out a first round in the chamber by puting in the magazine with 4 rounds, the opening and releasing the bolt?

The ruger 22 i have you load the magazine, oull back and release the bolt, and its loaded.

    in the first place I would NOT shoot Miltary surplus in a 7400, Miltary rounds are just a little different than factory rounds even thru they do interchange they are different , its ok to shoot factory 308 winchester in a gun that is chamber for the 7.62 Nato but you should not shoot 7.62 Nato (Military) in a gun that is chamber for the 308 winchester and i sure wouldn't do it in a remington 7400 , plus 7.62 Nato is loaded to higher presure .. if you use the search feature on this forum you can find several topics that have cover this alot ..

    #2. pull back to release the bolt stop and let go
    #3. with the bolt closed, yes you can but its a little harder because the shells will have to get press down into the mag body ,, this is because the top shell in the mag will press agaisnt the botton of the bolt , if you want to have the gun load a round fron the mag just lock the bolt back then put in your loaded mag and release the bolt

    The 7400 bolt does not stay open unless there is an empty magazine in the magazine well. Let it slam closed, that way you are sure it will fire.

    To close the action simply push the release lever on the left side of the magazine.

    I agree with gskyhawk about not using surplus ammo in the 7400. PMC has some inexpensive ammo that has proven to be very good.
