Screw Plug for 3-48 hole
I just removed the center sight bead from my Remington 1100 Competition model. It was annoying. There is now a 3-48 hole that I would like to plug. Does anyone make a 3-48 screw plugs? I checked Brownel's and did not find any. Any other ideas on how to fill this hole? Thanks, Jim

Are you sure it's a 3/48.
That seems to be a odd size, generally they are 3/56.
Fill it with any type of Quick weld, or a epoxy, then just color it as close as you can get it to match the rest of the barrel.
Although that annoying center bead will help prevent canting the gun.

I just tried Mc Master Carr and no joy there on that size. Have you tryed calling Remington for suggestions? 0 -
Drill it out and tap it 4-40, 4-40 plugs are everywhere.

I have some 3-48 screws. The plug would have to be pretty short.
You could screw it in, cut it off and carefully file it to match the barrel, or screw it half way in, cut it off and saw a slot for the screwdriver. You'd need a real skinny saw, the diameter of the screw is only .096 to .099 inch.

Or - you can get a pack of 50 cup point set screws for about $15, grind the cup off and run it in with an allen wrench.
You can get them in 1/16, 3/32 and 1/8 inch lengths.

Are you sure the screws are '3x48' and not '6x48'? I have removed scope mounts and restored holes from missing sights on a number of rifles, mostly Winchesters and Remingtons. They have all been 6 x 48. There are REGULAR plug screws and CAP screws which have a slight curavature on top and a tiny 'cap' lip that snugs down against the metal to make a nice, smooth fit. Regular screws keep going on into the hole until they bottom out and look like Bubba work.
