anyone own a browning a-bolt; and how accurate

I am very interested in a browning a bolt for my primary hunting rifle, but don't know a lot about their accuracy. I was thinking about one of them with the BOSS system. Can I expect MOA accuracy, because my savage right now is MOA and I dont want a gun that won't give MOA. Thanks

    You wont be disappointed with the Browning. Very accurate rifles.

    It shoots a lot better than I can.

    The 60 degree bolt throw is great!

    If you take your Savage to a good riflesmith and have it glas-bedded and the trigger adjusted Im willing to bet it will shoot as good as any.This will be a lot cheaper than a new Browning.
    The Browning is an excellent rifle and Ive had experience with several of them . They are generally accurate.
    If you want another rifle one reason is as good as another to justify it. Im well aware of how us gun lovers minds work.
    I just wanted to throw this in the mix for you to think about.
    None of the mfgs. go to the trouble of properly fitting stocks and triggers.They would have to be priced much higher if they did. All my factory rifles have been bedded with Acra-Gel,and Ive neve seen one it didnt help.

    Ive sold a good many customers a rifle with the boss system and most dont like it.The noise it makes is extreme. and while it can help tune your barrel for accuracy most all the buyers came back and wanted to buy the blank tube adaptor to replace the adjustment and ported tube to do way with it.
    I usually advise against it unless a customers mind is made up.

    I have heard the same as D.S. You can certainly have it shoot MOA once the BOSS is dialed in for the particular ammo your shooting, but the noise is supposed to be extreme. I have been steered away from the BOSS for just that reason. There are plenty of rifles that will shoot MOA for the price of a Browning with BOSS that don't blow the ears up.

    I have a piller bedded heavy barreled 25-06 Savage that shoots anything I feed it under 1 MOA , it weighs 12 lbs - I have an a A-bolt
    243 WSSM, no boss - 6.5lbs, and it shoots anything I feed it under 1 MOA - guess which one I carry. You want a boss? get a wife!

    I have a medallion grade in 7mm-08. The rifle is very smooth during bolt throw, very nicely finished, and quite accurate. That being said, I hesitate to carry it often as it seems a shame to damage the finish. A pard has had several stainless stalkers and they have been very accurate as well. The a-bolt is a very nice rifle.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    The Browning is a wonderful rifle for all the reasons that the folks above have mentioned. I'm not real clear about the reason you're considering one, however. Is is to replace your Savage or supplement it? If you're wanting another rifle to supplement the Savage, then the Browning with the Boss will certainly do as well in terms of accuracy. Yes, it is noisey, but if the noise bothers you, Browning makes a part that replaces the Boss that lessens the noise. The problem is, of course, you loose the advantage of the Boss. Since you're considering a hunting rifle, consider one of the composite stalkers as someone has already mentioned. If you're looking for something more accurate to replace your Savage, consider keeping the Savage and learning to reload. By tweeking the velocity of the reloads, you can accomplish the same thing that the Browning Boss does with the harmonics of the barrel. Best of luck.     I want to replace the savage that I have, it has a bull barrel and is just too barrel heavy.

    Then the Browning, particularly a Composite Stalker, would be an excellent choice. The only additional suggestion that I would make is to buy a really good pair of hearing protectors and consider buying one of the attachemnts to replace the Boss. I haven't got one for a customer in several years, but the last one cost about $25.00, so it's not a tremendous expense. Most folks like the Boss and find that it improves their accuracy without going to handloads. However a few find it just too noisey. Having the attachment to replace the Boss will give you the chance to see which is best for you. There is one other very small consideration. You haven't said anything about caliber and scope. If you're considering scoping something in the .300 WinMag range or bigger, select some really strong scope mount such as a dual dovetail mount. If you considering some smaller, it isn't as critical. Best of luck -- let's see a picture when you have it ready for the season.
