Norinco NHM-91

I recently acquired 2 rifles at a storage unit auction, a Norinco NHM-91 and an NHM-90.

Before I shoot them...is there a way I can tell if these guns have been modified to full auto without actually shooting them?

Any advice appreciated.

    I bought one today with a 20" barrel and thumbhole stock. It looks almost new. What can you tell me about the quality, accuracy, and value? Are these collectible at all or are they simply "shooters"?

    I've always considered mine just a shooter. I am not aware of any AK varient that came with a thumbhole stock that is considered collectable. Aren't the collectable ones exmilitary rifles for the most part. Anything with a thumbhole stock was cranked out to be dumped on the American/Californian market. Still it is a good shooter and a blast with a 75 rnd drum on it. There are some steel Chinese folding bipods that fit it real nice that get it the almost RPK look.

    The NHM91 is less common than many of the other AK variants out there. They are one of the few long barreled AK's that came into the US market "New In Box". Some of the others were put together from used parts. The NHM91 will have a chromed lined bore and a heavier barrel than many of the other AK's. Normally the NHM91 will also still have the threads on the barrel under the muzzle nut, so it would be easier to put back on some of the muzzle accessories. As for the thumbhole stock, that was part of their design for the US market after the 1989 ban. With enough US parts, you could put that rifle into the configuration of an RPK and then you would have something. However in its standard configuration it still is a nice rifle and as I mentioned, not as common as many of the others out there. Most would find the overall appearance of the metal to be better on the NHM91 than the more common (as of late) Romanian SAR's and WASR's. The thinckness of the receiver is greater on the NHM91 than some of the others out there as well. The NHM91 would have originally come with a bipod as well. The one I have available, has all the original accessories, including the box, manual, bipod, sling, cleaning rod and kit, etc.
