The reamer is about $100, maybe $50 to your gunsmith, depending on what part of the country you are in. maybe you would get lucky and he already has a reamer.

While the cost of the procedure may be important budget-wise, the process is critical to a high quality chamber.
In order to create a concentric and true chamber, a pilot that is the diameter of the bore is used to center the reamer and keep the reamer cutting true to the bore. It is located just in front of the actual cutting flutes on the reamer.
When you start with an existing chamber, the pilot can't reach the bore diameter because of the length of the existing chamber. The problems that occur are chatter at the minimum and an out-of-round or off center chamber at the worst. These problems can be solved but the gunsmith MUST know what the conditions are upfront, not after he has received the rifle. He should be able to guarantee a concentric, chatter-free chamber. If he can't, find another gunsmith.
