To buy or not to buy?
I'm looking at a Sako AV with a laminated stock, in 300 Win Mag, with a Bushnell Banner 6-18 X 50 scope. Gun is in excellent condition, closer to being new than used. The asking price is $895. Is that good, bad, or about middle of the road. Also, is the laminated stock kind of a rare find in this rifle or not?

I'm not familiar with that model of Sako rifle, nor am I a Sako expert. But that sounds like a reasonable deal.
Buy it.
Then again a quick search on here puts that at standard used / new price.

It appears to be a decent and fair price. I was over on another board and fellow had a similar rifle for sale for $869, but in a smaller caliber and without a scope. If you end up with the rifle, you may find that the scope that is currently on it could be upgraded, so keep the possible cost of a new scope in mind as you contemplate going ahead with this deal. Thanks for the input. I'm in the thinking stage on it. The problem is, is that I don't really need it. I've always fancied wanting a really big rifle, for what reason I have no idea. Several years ago, I found a Ruger 77 for sale in 458 Win Mag at a pawn shop. The rifle looked like new, and they wanted $250 for it. Unreal Huh? I should have bought it. Anyway, alongside this Sako I'm talking about, there is a brand new Savage Safari Express in 375 H & H. A really fine looking rifle. Asking price is $845. I'm bouncing between the 2. Practicality is out of the question because I have no use for either one. I just want one. Funny how a guy gets like that about guns. Anybody have any thoughts about the 2 rifles in question as far as which one would be the most justifiable to buy? 0 -
the 300 is more practical, at least in my case, because you can use it on whitetail deer without really feeling you are over gunned.

Of those two, the Sako will have more resale value if you change your mind down the road. The problem with the deal is the scope.
As it stands now, the rifle is a fair retail deal. If it had a Leupold VX-III, it becomes a very nice deal.

I hear 375 H&H makes for a good Africa gun. Was talking with some old coots at one of my haunts who had been hunting in Africa recently & multiple times both guys used primarlily the 375. One of the old timers started with a 300 win mag and after tracking the animal he shot all day (finally dispacting it) he switched to his 375 H&H for the rest of the hunt.
I don't own one but Savage has been calling my name for awhile. When I think SAKO, I think TRG. The one you are looking at looks like a lesser massed produced line.

drobs,..the sako actions are machined very tight and true,..no matter the action design. I bought 3 L691 actions NIB and the gunsmith said they were ALL as close to perfect true as you could ask for. The TRG is no tighter or straighter than anything else Sako makes. Their tolerances are among the best in the non-custom arena.[8D]
