you didn't mention the modle #, but my savage manufactured springfield mdl. 511 in 12ga. cost me a rem. mdl. 1100 in 16ga.; your milage may vary. sounds like yours is older and value would depend alot on condition...savage, stevens, fox,& springfield are all cousins.
