Recommend 45LC pistol for deer
Here's my dream pistol - a .45 LC Peacemaker (actually a Bisley model) that can handle hunting ammo - either handloads or off the shelf loads like Buffalo Bore or Cor-Bon.

What about the Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk? Its a Single Action Army (Peacemaker) style revolver with Bisley style grips, available in .45Colt.

Or, I would think one of the Freedom Arms SAA type guns would do the job although I don't think they make a Bisley model. However, their Premier Grade guns have grips that are a bit longer and more arched, sort of like a Bisley as compared to a standard SAA type grip.

Thanks for the input! I'll check out Freedom Arms, though from what I remember, they might be out of my price range.
I just went and checked out Chuck Hawk's site, and he had some good information on handgun calibers and recoil, velocity, energy, etc. It looks like the .44 Mag is actually a better fit for me than the .45LC. Better balistics, more energy, and the ability to shoot the tame .44 Special for plinking.

If price is a concern and a .44Mag./.44Spl. gun is a better option for you, then I definitely would recommend a Ruger Bisley (not to be mistaken for the Bisley Vaquero - see link below) in .44Mag. At $580.00 list price for a new one (and you could probably get one cheaper than that actually), its a pretty good deal. I see them on Gunbroker auctions for around $450.00 or less all the time. Or, you could get a good used one for even less. And, the Bisley model Ruger is still available in blue!

If you handload and have a modern designed revolver like a Ruger you can exceed 44 mag performance. You would not be able to use these loads in Colts. In the reloading manuals they specifically state for Rugers and TC's.

I've been hunting deer with a Ruger .44 Mag. for 14 years. My estimation can't be beat. I have a 2X Leupold on top and if they're within 65 yds. they drop. As a single action design it rolls back real nice so at the range even with hot loads it doesn't beat you to death. Mine has the 10" brl. & conagraphs around 1400 fps. Well built firearm and you should be able to pick up a good used one for $325-$375. Stay Safe . . . . . . . . . . 0 -
If you dont insist on a wheel gun, look at Encore or Contender. Then you can also shoot .410 0 -
I just picked up a freedom arms premier grade model 83 chambered in 44 mag. It is the best pistol I have ever shot. I ask myself why I waited so long to get one. They are head and shoulders above smith, taurus or ruger. The ruger bisley hunter would be my second choice but I would sell my own blood for enough cash for the freedom arms.

ohcray, why don't you like the Vaquero? I got the 45lc and may try to get deer at some point. It is hard for me to give up my rifle however.
