Wards Hercules single shot
If anyone can help. I am trying to research an old Wards Hercules Model 12 Single shot 16 guage shotgun. Its serial Number is 904925 (marked on barrel) or A904925 or A904935 (marked on action). It probably isn't worth much, but would just like to know some if history of the firearm, or manufacturing company, approximate age of this firearm. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had one like yours,but in 12 gauge.I got it from a older lady at a flea market in Kalfornia in 1979.It was in excellent condition and I paid $20.00 for it.I traded it to a guy I worked with for a Winchester model 67 youth model in 22 caliber.

If it has a model number you can check the cross over list in the Blue book or at the Gun Parts Corp web site cross over list to determine the original manufacturer and model number.
You are correct in your accessment of probable value, not that it is not possibly a fine gun, but that aftermarket value depends upon demand, and specifically collector demand to get the price up. The department store models were usually "economy" versions of the manufacturers model and just have not generated much collector interest.0 -
Didn't Iver Johnson make a "Hercules" break action shotgun?
I don't have any of my books handy,but it seems they made them in the early 1900's into maybe the 40's or 50's.
