7.5 swiss ?

has anyone heard of the 7.5 swiss straight pull rifle being converted too somthing easier too find in ammo? any suggestions? thanks don

    You can re-fit one of the K-31's but I really don't see any reason to since ammunition is plentiful now and will continue to be so because of the high degree of interest in the cartridge and the rifles. The rifles with the 7.5 Swiss ammunition are very accurate and the cost of conversion would be fairly high if the barrel was obtained from a top quality maker and then installed by a good gunsmith. The ammunition probably won't be found in every little gunshop in the States but it is certainly available through several of the internet surplus suppliers. Better than that, all of the components for reloading are available as well.

    Heck, Wolf is even offering it now. Hornady makes it. Norma does of course, but expensive. FNM. Privi. Not to mention surplus. No reason to rebarrel.

    i was thinking more in the lines of rechambering.i understand the 7.5 shoots a .308 bullet anyway,what would it take too rechamber too maybe 308 or 30-06.what u think?thanks don

    You'll notice that the diameter of the 7.5 Swiss precludes re-chambering to a cartridge such as the .308 Win. The 7.5 Swiss is closer case-wise to the .284 Win. than the .308 Win.

    Don't fix it if it aint broke. These are fine shooting rifles albeit UGLY.
    You can only diminish it by monkeying with it unless you throw a lot of money at it.
    Enjoy it for what it is.

    Believe Graf / Hornady are also loading (or planning to load) commercial ammo. The original rifles will never win beauty contests, but they are good shooters as they sit. Better to sell the rifle in original configuration and use the funds toward a different piece in a preferred chambering than mess with the one you have - you will have more $ in your pocket when done.

    Just to add now that I've said "don't touch it", some have been converted to .308 or 30/30. For the .308 it involved taking off the barrel, cutting off the breech to appropriate length, and rethreading, I belive. No idea on the 30/30 but it would have to be similar, and perhaps with mag/extractor mods.

    Like the guys before have all said these are excellent shooting rifles. If you were to try to rechamber the barrel that is on the rifle in something .30 cal (.308) I don't think you would have enough material to cut if off and cut in a new chamber. You would be past the thick part of the barrel....unless you wanted a .30 whisper, but your rounds wouldn't stay in the magazine.

    That being said, You could use this action as a basis for a custom rifle. But, be ready because that would cost you somewhere around 500 bucks and up. You could buy at least 3 480 rd. cases of 7.5 for what it would start to cost you for a custom.

    Now, the least expensive, and most satifying to me, is to get set up to reload. Buy a set of Redding 7.5(K-31) dies. p/n 80235 for full set or 91235 for full length die(buy Hornady custom and use just the bullet seater). I say use Redding because they are the only ones right now that have an "off-the-shelf" set of dies for the K-31. The K-31's have a larger chamber than do other Swiss 7.5's. The shoulder is .471 instead of .454 of standard Swiss. -Good luck

    If you are into reloading, I have been taking 284 Winchester brass and reforming it for Swiss 7.5. Works great, I haven't had a single problem with it in over 200 rounds
