I am just getting into shooting and hunting more than ever and i bought myself a remington 870 mag. so i could hunt in special regs around my house. the problem is i dont understand how the red dot scope works... does it need batteries or is it broken. any help would be great. thx. avidhunter

  Red dots do need batteries. If someone left it on there dead. Most red dot style scopes have your two adjustment caps and then the third cap is the battery housing. Replace the batteries and see if it works. If it still does not work. think about tossing and getting a new one.

  thx, i took a nickel and unscrewed the battery housing and im guessing its just a watch battery that i can get at a walmart or drug store? avidhunter
