Value On 1911 Customized US Army Colt 45?
I have my Dad's beautiful Colt 45, U.S. Army Issue, Colt 1911, which, like Patton's was customized. It has an all Chrome exterior; the grip has been customized to an etched design - with a raised brass long horn cow head on one side, and on the other side of the grip, the same etching, and my Dad's initials in raised brass.
Obviously, my Dad was from Texas - re: Long Horn Cow Head
It is in perfect condition and has been fired only once since 1940, that I know for sure. I doubt it was fired anytime after W.W.I. I had it checked out by a very good gun shop because I knew it had not been fired in so many years, and he was in total awe at the beautiful condition it is in.
Just wondering about the value? I really need to polish it up some, and then I may photograph it, and post the photo
Personally, I have never shot it, being a female; it is simply to heavy a weapon for me for any serious purpose.
For me to be able to properly use it, because of its' weight, I'd have to ask the burglar or intruder to please wait a minute so I could get into a proper 2 handed police shooting position![:D]

...being a customized WWI 1911 the collector value is probably low. Being the fact that it is your dad's the value is priceless. Keep it clean and oiled and safely tucked away to revive your precious memories of dad.

I know some women who are quite proficient with a full size .45; don't think that it is just a "man's" gun. It's like anything else: you have to work up to it. I wouldn't want you driving a Hummer until you felt comfortable with a Saturn.
But, since you asked for a value, I will estimate that it would sell in the $300-400 range. Guns should never be "polished"; although yours isn't worth much, you still shouldn't do it.
