??? on 1885 Browning/Winchester
Were any of these made in 7x57 or .280???? Probably a special order if any... Or have you seen one???

Modern made Winchester 1885 or one of the old originals[?]
If you are referring to the old original 1885s, there was a very small number of them chambered for the 7x57mm. If you are asking about the modern reproductions, then I do not know the answer.

Thanks Bert - I refer to the older, more likely the Brownings than Winchester. I know Browning made the B-78 in a few more calibers than the 1885, but the 7x57 would be more likely than the .280. I can always ream a 7x57 into a .280. Oh well - I'll keep saving my pennies and hoping[:D][:D]

If you are referring to a Browning B-78, then those are much newer than the original Model 1885s (which were in production from September 1885 - June 1920). The original Winchester Model 1885 was available in just over 100 different cartridge chamberings... everything from .22 BB Cap up to .577 Eley, including a few hundred 20 gauge high-walls. During my research, I have uncovered at least three chambered for 7x57mm.
The modern made Winchester Model 1885s have been primarily offered in Winchester cartridge chamberings (e.g. 270 Win, 38-55, 405 WCF, 45-90 WCF, and even some of the new WSM cartridges), but they have also been made in 45-70, 30-06, and 7mm Rem Mag. Winchester is still making them, but I am not aware of any made in 7x57 or .280 Rem.
The B-78 was in production from 1973 through 1982, selling almost 24,000 guns in cals. .243 Win, .22-250, 6 mm Rem., .25-'06, .30-'06, .45-70 and 7 mm Rem. Mag., with the last-named and the .243 being the rarest. Only 671 .243s were sold, according to Matt Eastman's Browning Sporting Arms of Distinction. Again, I am not aware of any that were made in 7x57mm or .280 Rem.

Thanks for the reference - I'll look up the book. I guess what I'm saying is the B-78 is older than the new production Brownings and Winchester remakes of the originals. I guess I'll have to look for the elusive older Winchester in 7x57 but then who wants to go reaming on an antique with the values they hold in original chambering. Or wait for that ship to come in - then I can order just about anything I want[:D][:D]
