Beretta Model 90

I just picked up a Beretta Model 90. I really was looking for a Beretta .32 Tomcat or a Walther .32 however this one was in very nice condition and I couldn't pass up the price,

The bore and action are like new but it's in need of a good cleaning.

Does anyone know where I can find a manual online for this pistol ?

Failing that, can someone point me in the right direction regarding field stripping. It's not one of those guns that's intuitive to take apart.

I've looked on the Beretta site and some other handgun sites but this model seems to be discussed less than their other guns.

Further, has anyone owned one of these that can tell me what they liked and didn't like about.

It's really just a range gun. Too big for a concealed carry or home security gun and too puny a round for a primary home protection piece. I like the idea that I can go to the range and shoot this thing, my .22 and my 9mm Browning for $25 in ammunition costs. The .45 Colt and .357 make nice big booms but it's like putting premium gas in the car. It really mounts up financially. Additionally, My teenage sons like these less intimidating pistols.

    I once owned one of these pistols before a divorce cleaned out my gun safe. It has been years but if you lock open the slide there should be a lever up at the front of the frame. Lift this lever up and then pull the slide back as far as you can until you can lift it off the frame and slide it forward. All I can remember about the pistol was that it reminded me quite a bit of the Walther PP. I hope this helps.

    That did the trick, GOD is this thing filthy ! I can't understand why anyone would own a handgun and allow it to get this gunked up. I'd be willing to wager that it was never stripped and cleaned. That makes at least 20 year old crap in there.

    You just don't see many of these things around. They made a ton of them. Probably didn't import too many.

    One of the reasons you do not see many of the Beretta Model 90s in the US is it was only made in 32 acp. Most gunwriters of that era (70s) advised to stay away from the 32 ACP as 380 could be had in the same size package and it was more powerful.

    If the Model 90 had been made in 380 ACP, It would have been a good seller IMHO. But, being made in 32 ACP in those days doomed it to poor sales.... at least in the USA.

    THe Model 90 was....different.... from almost every other Beretta Pistol, being made in a new factory in Rome. The pistol in Italy is actually referred to as the ROMA pistol. Production was only 22,000 and ended in March of 1982 after being manufactured for less than a dozen years. The Rome facility was closed soon afterward.

    It is a well-made, quality pistol that Beretta replaced with the Model 81/84/85 series.

    Wellll....just like that, both of my problems are solved. A little more Googling turned up Bob's Gun Shop in Royal Arkansas. They had all sorts of parts for discontinued firearms. I picked up 2 clips just in case at $30 or $35. I have not seen any parts for this item anywhere else online.

    And thanks to Kristov for his thoughts and advice. He was right on the money !
