10-40 screws

apprentice
does anybody have a source for 10-40 screws? flat head preferred but a socket head would work. I have a tang sight to mount to a Remington 81 and one screw is killing me. I would really appreciate the help.

    True Value Hardware's usually have all sorts of wierd size screws in stock.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    What length, overall incuding the head (proper way to measure a flat head)?
    I'll try to help you out. 10-32 is considered fine thread 10-40 is "extra" fine. However 40 tpi is very common in the gun industry.
    Hopefully I can find something for you,

    So common complains cause the gun industry is so "special"....
    Finally I got a lathe, a shaper and a bunch of tools....to make mines.

    I tried Ace Hardware this afternoon, no luck, True Value is now closed and also tried a hardward store that has been open since the 60s and when I told him what I needed he asked "is it for a firearm?" When I said yes he said "good luck." Brownells, Midway, Dixie and Buffalo Arms doesn't have it. No luck on the internet searches I have done. I will try some of the specialty places tomorrow, but there is a mimimum purchase usually because they cater to industrial places. I don't need a 100, I need one. If anybody has one I will pay you for it or I will get the rifle retapped, but I don't want to modify such a cool, original and good condition rifle.

    You might try to order from Numrich-- e-gunparts.com and then try again every 2 or 3 weeks.

    I tried to find bolt parts for an 81, included them in every order from them. Whadda ya know.- 2-1/2 years later they showed up in an order.

    Their inventory changes daily, so keep trying.

    I have some odd-ball taps and dies, but not that one. If I had the one that MSN sells,- #03928405 at about $11.00 I'd make one for you.
