ted williams model 75 shotgun

I currently own one of these and it is my favorite shotgun. It is in a 20 gauge semi-auto with a fixed adjustable choke. I am having a problem with spent shells jamming in the chamber where the shell enters the barrel and am wondering if anyone might know the problem so i can have it fixed. The barrel and receiver are one piece meaning the barrel is not removable. It works fine as long as you use really heavy load shells like a 4 or 5 shot heavy field load but if you try to use light 6 or 7.5's or the like the extractor claw will not remove the shell from the barrel. You can take a pocket knife and pop the shell right out and unfired shells will slide right out if you tip up the gun. I just dont know how to fix this. I have replaced the extractor claw and completely disassembled the gun and the spent hulls are not jammed so bad that it is hard to remove them it is just that the extractor pops of of the brass on the spent hull after it is fired. The extractor can even be manually worked on an unfired or even an old hull that you put in but when you fire the gun if will not eject the shell.     That gun is basically the High Standard Supermatic, as made for Sears.

    The extractor is not popping over the rim on the light loads, but not the heavy loads. If that were happening and the bolt was travelling all the way to the rear, the next shell would be trying to feed up into the chamber. Most likely, you have excessive crud/corrosion in the gas system that is causing the lighter gas pressures generated by the target loads to be insufficient to operate the system. OR, you are leaking gas somewhere with the same result.

    Your model 75 was sold by Sears between 1964-1968 and is like Countrygunsmith said basically a High Standard Supermatic.

    Note that this model has an adjustment for magnum or other loads. Are making that adjustment?

    just as countrygunsmith stated the unfired shells are trying to feed up behind the spent hulls when they do not eject. thank you john stimson for the diagram web sites. i will take this to a competent gunsmith and have the barrel removed for proper cleaning and a checkup. i really appreciate both of your inputs. thanx.
