Colt Sauer rifle ???

I have a Colt Sauer 30-06 in ANIB condition, a Christmas present from the better half. During its periodic cleaning check, I must have released the firing spring tension on the bolt with it being in the wrong position to do so. When I pulled the bolt out for inspection, I got the handle, spring, and firing pin with the remainder in the receiver. Both pieces came out of course without problem or binding. Not the type of event one would want when out on a hunt. I normally pull bolts when inspecting and cleaning and have had the rifle for 16 years and never had a problem.

Anyone know how it is put back together, especially the 3 hinged metal flaps at the rear of the main bolt cylinder? They appear to be part of the lock up and get tightened against another surface by them sliding up a curved surface and camming out onto the inside of the receiver housing when cocked. It has a very interesting design, no threads, just slides together and locks up. A web search didn't reveal anything. Our nearest gunsmith is 20 miles away and on vacation for 2 more weeks. I don't plan on shooting it, it's just a loose end to clear up.

    I don't have any personal experience with this but did find info in "Bolt Action Rifles" (Expanded 3rd Edition) by Frank De Haas. It has a complete description of the rifle, exploded diagram, parts list etc. It does explain bolt disassembly/assembly. Doesn't sound like a job for the average guy. A bit too much info to re-type here.

    This is a DBI soft cover manual. I found mine cheap at Half Price Books some time ago. I also check Gun Digest series of assembly/disassembly books and NRA Shoulder Arms assembly books. Colt Sauer not shown in them.

    Thanks mrs102, I appreciate your digging out some information. I see the book, both new and used on Barnes and Noble, also at www.gunshowbooks.com, and www.krause.com. The first one mzy be at a gun show today. Krause Pub. is the one that publishes GunList. I am curious to see if any special tools are involved or if it is a task for 4 hands at the same time. Bubba isn't going to get invited to this party.

    Thanks Cody, the rifle came with a set of bases and a top of the line Redfield already mounted.

    Cody: Is the pair the original one made by Colts or is it from other manufacture like Redfield?

    I may have that edition of the DeHaas book at home. If so (I'll check this evening) I may be able to scan the appropriate pages for you.

    Sorry - the DeHaas book I have seems to be the first edition - it doesn't include the Colt Sauer
