Rock Island 45's ARE THEY A GOOD BANG FOR THE BUC
Just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if these 45's are dependable and accurate ? Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Hello it depends on what you are going to use it for. It is made in ASIA and aftermarket parts may or may not fit. IMHO you get what you pay for in a 1911 TYPE gun .I used to like KIMBER but since they started getting some of their parts from ASIA there have been some barrel blow ups . I know of at least one custom ammo maker whos insurance co. has in the contract That his liability policy will not cover him if his ammo is sold to GLOCK or KIMBER owners. He now has to get a signed statement from customers that ammo will not be used in those 2 pistols.For a plinking gun they most likely are OK."PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
Reasonably.
But, it's not uncommon for owners of 3rd world .45s to have to make at least one visit to a gunsmith soon after purchase. So, if you factor in $100 to the price for the repair cost, & you don't figure anything for the aggravation, go ahead.
If you plan to accurize your .45, then it's not a good choice.

I have all types of 1911's and bought one of the RIA's from a fellow hewre on the boards. He owns one too and WE both think they are great shooters. I have at least 6000rds thru it over the last year and not one problem yet. It's not a Colt or Kimber but it is a good entry level 1911 for the shooter that does not have a lot of $$$ ot spend.

the answer is yes,they are not a top of the line 1911 but they work,I have 2,they go bang everytime I pull the trigger,yes you may have to tweek them to get them to function correct 100% of the time but I had to do the same thing to a Kimber <-"adj extractor", if you do not want to work on your handgun dont buy a 1911.I have yet to find any series 70 part that would not work with a little fitting but you have to fit any 1911 part to any name brand .I have several 1911's and only 3 worked 100% out of the box,a Wison Combat Classic,a Dan Wesson Pointman and A Charles Daly Empire <-"made by the same people who make rock island".The only 1911 I ever bought new and could never get to operate correctly was a Springfield,they could never get it to work either so they ended up refitting it with a new slide,then it only worked about 80% of the time so I TRADED IT OFF FOR A SISTEMA COLT. 0 -
I talked Chicagothunder into his RIA. I bought mine on a whim last X-mas and have put a couple thousand rounds through it. I got say it's been Glock reliable for me right out of the box.
Sights are small, there's hammer bite, the finish is light, and some non factory mags are stiff coming out but overall I love this thing.
Reliability has been great for me.

I have a RIA that i got from sarcoinc.com for $285. It has never miss-fired or failed to feed. Mine is quite accurate out to 25yrds. The 8rd mags that sarco sells with the pistol work very well and fit almost flush to the base. They have the pad on the bottom for easy loading and also serves as a pinky rest. The 8rds only cost about $12 too. Hope this helps. I did a lot of research before I bought my RIA and heard 98% positive things about it. I dont think the price can be beat or should be passed up.

They are good "starter guns" for the 1911 enthusaist. You may wish to take out those MIM "third world" parts that are prone to failure and breakage and replace them with quality AM parts and for the money the piece will more than likely serve you well. Than when "your ship comes in", you can purchase that LBC or Kimber..!!

I've yet to see one come back because of issues. For a plain jane gun, they might serve you well.
Frankly if you want a 1911, exercise some patience*. Good 1911s are out there in huge numbers but out of all of them, a surprising number, maybe 15%, will show some glitch that could use a gunsmith's touch. Or you'll want something done anyway.
*I just got a sweet older customized bulllseye 1911 with a Caspian frame, Bo-mar sights and a Kart barrel for just under $400** (before tax). Providence doesn't always shine like this, but if you want something nice don't buy a gun because of its low price--I passed up at least a couple of good deals before this gem showed up. I'm glad I waited, because I'd have bought this one anyway [:D]
**I spent more than this on parts and roughly the same again in labor on my custom Colt. And it was absolutely worth it even though I could scarcely afford it. I'm considering the recent find overdue interest on my earlier investment! [:D][:D][:D]

The one he did for me still doesn't work right. He fix your Glock yet?
