Semi Auto 45 cal
I have found my self in the market for a new pistol, would like a 45 auto. Thought this would be a good place to start. What brand and mod# should I look at.

Regardless of what you are looking for, there are only 1911s and everything else. Use a basic 1911 (about $600-750) and compare everything else to it. There are two types of 45s: target and defensive.
Once you decide on the type, get the best gun you can afford. You won't regret it.

Basic Springfield Armory GI's start around $420 around here.
You may also want to consider what a lot of law enforcement are going to these days with the .40 cal. Good stopping power, not as much recoil and just as accurate as the .45. These can be found in verying configurations that range from the high $300's to over 1k depending on what you put on them.
Also, I will agree on what mballai and xracer say in that you need to discern what you will use it for first, and then how much you may want to spend in that direction. -good luck
I also wanted to add that while I haven't owned one I have enjoyed shooting the Ruger P90 and P97(?) in .45. Most people I know who own them like them. So, I like 1911's and P90's

I have a Colt Defender, a Kimber Custom TLR/RLII, a Wilson Combat KZ-45, and a S&W-99. I love them all, but I'm going to get a Para Ordnance PXT LDA High Capacity. You can find them at:

They come in 13, 14, or 15 round capacity, and they are a 1911 action, but in DOUBLE ACTION. No "Cocked n Locked" needed.0 -
The P-14] LDA has the slickest double action I have ever seen, including my 357 that has had signicant action work done on it. But like the man said, you can spend as much or as little as you want to.[8D]
