Remington 582 .22lr.

Some comments about a Remington rimfire model 582 about 80% finish.
Is it accurate? Reliable? I mean........a good choice just for plinking? Value?

  I owned a Remington 582 for many years. Phenominally accurate. Extremely reliable. Super good rifle. I wished I still had it today.

  The Remington 580 series was made up of a single shot (M-580), and two repeaters. Yours is, If I remember correctly, the tube feed model, and then there was the "clip" or removeable magazine model as well. They are known for their quality action with a bolt that locks up securly, leading to excellent accuracy. The 580 series was a plain economy series using hardwood stocks. My 580 single shot, however, shoots just as good as my much more expensive 541-S model which shares some of the same design elements. You should be able to get 1 inch or less groups at 50 yards with a good quality scope. I have seen 582's sell locally for $150-$175. In my opinion they are great guns for the money. You don't see too many for sale as people tend to know a good thing when they shoot it and hang on to them.
