.300 Rem Ultra Mag ammo question
Buddy of mine just got a Savage 116 in 300 Rem Ultra Mag, he asked me what ammo to buy for it, I thought I'd ask the experts before I recommended something. For starters he'll just be shooting it at paper to dial it in, anybody have a recommendation for some ammo that seems to be accurate in this chambering?
Seems to be only a couple offerings that I can find Federal makes a 180 Trophy Bonded that sells for about $45 for a box of 20 and Remington makes a couple 180 grain PSP and 180 grain Premier Scirroco both in Cabela's for $31 per box.

If he won't be reloading I suggest trying different loads to see which preformes best. Any should group less than 2 moa so use cheapest box to sight in the scope, then experiment to see what the rifle likes best. This calliber starts to excell with heavy bullets (200gr-250gr) at long distance.

I would strongly suggest handloading. This caliber has rather wimpy factory ammo with poor selection of bullets. Handloading makes them much more agreeable and much faster.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
