s&w 1000 20 ga. problem

[8D] i have a 20 ga. s&w 1000 semi. auto that i have been shooting doves and skeet with for 5yrs...several cases of shells so far..also have the same gun in 12ga. by mossberg..no problem with the 12, but hardly ever shoot it..love the 20,nice and light,but have to keep it clean,shoot estate 7\8 no.8s only...on advice from this board(trap55i think)order new rubber ring,recoil piston and bolt retracting dohicky..gun will fire two shells then not cock the hammer,is it time to replace the o-ring and if so how do i do it,or is it a fowled action problem? also have anotherquestion,been bying estate 20ga. loads for 4yrs by the case,i now under stand federal owns estate cat. co and they have changed the plastic shot cup to a 2 piece unit from a one piece one,also the shell casing is diff. i dont seem to hit as well with this new shell..has anybody else noticed this difference or is it justthis old,crippled fat man is in a shooting slump.[xx(]anyhelp on iether subject will be a great help..[:D]

    shdytree, sounds like it's time for a good cleaning! Check the gas ports in the barrel to make sure they are clean, a pipe cleaner soaked in Hoppes works good.Sometimes a piece of wire is needed to scrape the carbon out, being careful to just remove carbon and no metal. If it's never been done, cleaning and lubing the recoil spring and tube(in the buttstock), can make a big difference too.
    One other thing it could be is the pressure compensation valve (1st part you pull out under the mag cap). This is the only weak spot in the gun and the supply of them has all but dried up.[:(] E-mail me if you need help with disassembly/reassembly.

    [8D]thanks trap55, ive given this gun a few real good cleanings but never cleaned the ports in the barr.will do.i order and reciveda newpressure compensating valve back in the summer after reading on another post where you were saying the supply of them was drying up...ive cleaned the old one numerous times,what part of it wheres out,the sides or does the whole get pluged to..loke for e.mail from me.[:D]
