Marlin Model 57M question

I ran across one of these yesterday in a pawn shop.

I'll be conservative and give it 85%.Gently used,but obviously not abused.

4x32 Bushnell of some sort.Nice and clear,w/Weaver mounts.

$149 is asking price,but I haven't done any dickerin' yet.

I'm not familiar with this model.Do they have any common problems?

Is this a decent price?

    Had one 20 years ago. Great gun. Go for it at that price if it's still there.

    I owned one in a model 62 ( 256 magnum) and they are fun to shoot with a very short lever throw. I used mine as my first "varmint" rifle till i realized i couldn't hit much out past 100 yds so i retired it and moved up to a 222 savage bolt gun. This model 57m should be a good shooter but i find that $6 for 50 shots isn't feasible on my budget.

    Bobbywins, I had one for several years and loved it. It was accurate and dead reliable--never had a jam with it. In one of my less than intelligent moves I sold it for $50.00 more than I paid for it. I sold mine for $175.00 in very good condition and that was over 11 years ago. Go for it if it is in good condition--I don't think you'll ever regret it. I wish I had mine back now. Jim

    Nice little lever action. My dad had one of the 1st ones around, my brother has it now never any problems that i heard of, price sounds good i doubt you'll regret buying it.

    I have 2 of these in .22 lr.
    Both had broken firing pins when I got them.
    Great shooters, neat short-throw lever.

    It sounds like a wonderful deal. I'm currently looking at a Marlin 57 in 22 mag for about $300 in a local shop. I keep hoping that I'll see one here in better condition for less money, but I'm beginning to doubt it. Best of luck -- Steve

    TO PAY $29.00 FOR IT. THE LOWEST PRICE I'VE SEEN AROUND MY NECK
    ]OF THE WOODS RUNS 245.00 AND UP WITH NO SCOPE. JUMP ON IT, I SHOT
    SEVERAL HUNDRED ROUNDS THRU MINE WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS.

    I have a 62 in 30 Carbine and a 22 mag like new with a tube magazine feed made for Sears. If you are looking for a 256 the pawn shop here in Tishomingo, Ok. Has one for sale with an old 4x Leupold but he is asking 750.00.
