Savage Springfield 30-30 bolt action
I have this particular gun and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.? I heard from a collector that they stopped making this gun in 1968. Again, the barrel reads " Savage Arms Corp. Springfield Model 840 30-30 caliber" but behind the rear iron sights it has three things stamped into the top of the barrel, 38t , 40t , sp .? Please help, thanks.

What you have is a modern version of the old 'hardware store shotgun', where a gun co. would stamp anybody's name on their gun to sell them. In this case it was Savage.The original model is the Savage 340 which was made in 30-30,22 hornet,222,223 and 225 win. They were what I call a 'farm gun' as they weren't fancy and were designed to inexpensive to produce and sell. I bought a 340 in 222 in the late 60's in high school and seem to remember paying around 80 bucks for it, the 4x scope and mount. Though cheaply built, with a good bore, they can be suprisingly accurate. Hope this helps.Kb 0 -
I have the Stevens model. Bolt action 30-30, incredibly accurate. 130gr Hornady ssp, 30gr IMR3031. Got 1 in the NYS Record book with this combo, another just missed the book. 0 -
