SKS paratrooper barrel cut--Affects accuracy?

I understand that the SKS paratrooper rifles are not really manufactured that way, but that they were just generic SKS's with barrels cut down from the original length. Doesn't that affect accuracy?

I mean, if the original rifling grooves was designed for a certain length, and then you cut part of the barrell off, wouldn't that upset the spin on the bullet?

Other than that, I'd like to get one;)

    It's usually best to avoid hacked-up versions of perfectly good firearms.

    Shortening a barrel will have little or no effect on accuracy. However, the slightest angle when the barrel is cut, the failure to correctly re-crown the barrel, & failure to accurately re-mount the front sight definitely will.

    The SKS is a utilitarian rifle. Your best bet is to stick with the basic rifle, as issued.

    SKS's are a mixed bag as far as accuracy goes. Guns coming from the same factory will have widely varying degrees of accuracy. I have several different variations of SKS and sadly, one of my most accurate ones IS a paratrooper. I've shot clay pigeons out of the air with it with a frightening degree of frequency[:0] I have other SKS's that wouldn't hit a stationary soda can at the same distance. They're just as reliable as the regular SKS's IME. The SKS's that take the AK mags tend to be a little more tempermental to ammo selection as they use a shorter gas tube with a shorter stroke.

    My buddy and I both have SKS paratroopers that crazy nuts accurate. With the addition of a rubber butt cuff, I have personally hit shotgun shells at 50yds with both mine and his paratrooper.

    I rarely bring my SKS out to the range these days as I find my AK's to be more fun to shoot, maybe not as accurate but more fun IMHO.
