Foreign vs. Domestic

I am in the market for a semi-automatic or automatic firearm. I have read about the recent changes in BATF laws regarding the importation of foreign firearm parts, specifically barrels and receivers. This could become a significant driver for my selection.

I am a WWII reenactor, which has influenced me into the G/K43, MG34/42, MP40, and the SVT Tokarev. I don't have a fortune, so the MP40 has been ruled out as a realistic choice. The others range from $500-3000. I'd rather not purchase a weapon that will be impossible to repair in the future. Does anyone think that there will be a domestic producer to cover the parts for these weapons?

Aside from reenacting, I am also interested in the Dragunov and the M1A. Can anyone give me their thoughts about these weapons?

  I searched for three years for a decent barrel for my SVT Tokarev with no luck anywhere. Some of the other parts can be had but not many. There are days that I regret having tripled my money when I sold it, it was a really interesting piece of military history. Even with a dark and pitted bore it shot pretty well.

  I've been "acting" the winning team (the good guys) for the last sixteen years, with ten more to go. It's nice to "stretch" once in a while.

  "I am also interested in the Dragunov and the M1A."I've got a Romainian dragunov, shoots well for the money (no, it's not a sniper rifle, squad marksman rifle is a better term).
