Ruger 3-screw?

Of the older Ruger 3-screws available, which is the most desireable barrel length and caliber to own and why? I have an old 357 with a 4 5/8 inch barrel and was wondering where it fell in the desirability range, and yes it is a shooter quality gun, not a collector.

    45lc/45acp with 7 1/2" seems to go the highest follow by the 44mag flat tops , then 41 mags with the 357 next and the 30 carbine last , i just picked up a really nice 4 5/8" in 357 mag for $250 couple weeks back , no box and it had been shot so its a shooter now but I was still very happy with the price , I know where there is a pair of 357mags both NIB one is a 6 1/2" with both cylinders and the other is the 4 5/8" model , the guy wants 900 for the pair which i think is too much

    I'd say you have the right barrel length,I would also say if it's a "Flat Top" the .357 mag and the .44 mag were the only calibers made.I'd choose the .357 for popularity and the .44 for rarity.

    The .44 mag came in three different barrel lengths. If it's and "Old Model" I'd chose 4and5/8s barrel in cal. .45 (LC) Colt. [:)]

    The most desirable. The 44mag flattop with a 15" barrel. There were only two made and one has been cut back to 10", leaving only one original.

    Of the every day type old 3 screw, the 6-1/2" 357 was the most popular just by numbers. Over 158,000 6-1/2" protected sight 3 screw in 357, 84,000 4-5/8" 357 VS. 15,000 7.5" 45cal and 6,900 4-5/8" 45cal. 23,000 6-1/2" 41mag and 16,700 4-5/8" 41mag. The Super Blackhawk very desirable in 6-1/2" only about 600 made by mistake, 92,450 7-1/2" produced.

    .30 carb Blackhawk, 32,985 7-1/2" guns made.

    Flattops, 357mag 4-5/8", 6-1/2", 10". 44Mag 6-1/2", 7-1/2", 10", 15". Any of the flattops are wanted, the most common the 357 in 4-5/8, 6-1/2" then the 6-1/2" 44mag.

    Hands down the 6.5" 357mag with 158,000 produced. They must have been in demand.

    If your 4-5/8" is a protected sight model I would put it 3rd behind the 6-1/2" 357 and the 7-1/2" Super Blackhawk. If it's a flattop I would go to the head of the class and rank it behind only the rare flattop variations.
