Ever Use 'Wheeler Engineering Bore Lapping Kit'

Anyone here ever use/heard of the Wheeler Engineering Bore Lapping Kit?
I've got a newish varmiter I want to try it out on. A friend of mine had a
smith lap his barrel and I'm impressed.

    Can't say I have ever heard of it.
    Can't imagine it would be much of an improvement over a one piece rod, some polishing compound, some protecting inserts, and a bunch of patience, care, and conservatism.

    If you have a 'varmiter specialized barrel', it may just be in fine shape already.

    It will be good to see feedback....the lapping topic always gets interesting.

    I'm with Gotstole; try some JB's Bore Paste and a coupla patches for a while before you go firing abrasive bullets thru yer bore.
    What it will save you in time may make up for what you'd lose in money.

    jb's is an abrasive. If the bore collects copper quickly, then it could be a tad rough and need lapping, if NOT, then it may only need some light abrasives. If it does copper foul quickly or has some tooling marks, Try the non-embedding ring lapping compound that sinclair sells with their kits,..they may sell the compound seperately. That on a patch wrapped around a brush run in 50 stroke intervals for maybe 2-3 reps should get it done. You really should use a bore guide for this to keep from lapping off center in the throat/leade area. You will also want to put a mark on your rod so that you know when to stop to prevent the patch from exiting the muzzle by more than a few MM to keep from cutting the edges of the crown. I follow this with the same method using rem bore cleaner (less abrasive). You could substitute the JB's at this stage as they are both milder than the ring compound. Follow by spraying some non-chlorinated breal cleaner in the foreward portion of the action and down the barrel with the muzzle down. Try to keep it away from the stock finish. Then anoint the bore with plenty of oil patches or hoppes etc and place some grease on the lugs.
