colt 45 barrel ?
I would like to replace the barrel on a colt series 70 MK IV government 45 acp I recently bought. I found a barrel that says it fits colt 1911 government length 45 acp. Should this fit my gun or does it have to specifically say it fits series 70.

If you have the collet bushing in your pistol you will need the corresponding barrel. Older barrel types will work but the fit will be sloppy in the bushing.

Hello If you look in the BROWNELL"S web site you will see there is many types of barrels The first thing we need to know is what do you want the end result to be from this barrel SWAP. All good quality 1911 GOV. models should be able to take a "replacemnt barrel" the only pistol I know of that is different in your series 70 whould be a GOLD CUP they have a narrow hood, the series 70 guns other then a gold cup have a COLLET type barrel bushing so if you go to another type barrel you will have to also change the bushing. A match barrel will have to be fitted as some parts "HOOD LOCKING LUGS" etc are oversized. a ramped barrel will have to have the frame "milled" feel free to ask more specific question but state what type of shooting you want to do."PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN" 0 -
I have no specific type of shooting I would like to do with it I just can't find a new barrel anywhere that says it is for a series 70.The colt factory replacement barrel on the schematics page on the brownells website seems to be the same as the barrel for the 1911. I would like to replace the barrel with the exact same barrel that is on it I just can't seem to find one. 0 -

When the series 70 was introduced they came with a small list of modifications, one of which was the barrel and bushing. The bushing on the 70 was a collet type bushing and the barrel the last half in ch of the barrel or so is a few thousandths of an inch larger in diameter where it makes contact with the collet bushing to force it to lock up tighter and improve accuracy. If you look at a barrel and run your finger down the end of the barrel and you feel a small "bulge" on the last half inch or so, then you are probably holding a series 70 barrel.
