Question about ammo for a .22

Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone can help me i have a Savage Mark 2 .22LR and this is my 1st .22 until this year i used a 12 gauge what i want to find is good bullets for it. I want something that wont tear the squirrel apart but kill it and not real loud. Is there any that would go all the way through w/o expanding first.

    Sounds like you need to get some regular 40gr solids and find one that gives you good accuracy and reliability in your gun.

    If you're close to the squirrel some 60gr Colibri SSS rounds might do nicely as well

    I usually use the remington golden bullets, 8 bucks for 550 rnds and rarely a bad one, maybe 2-3 per brick at the very most.

    Ditto, they work best in a few of my .22's, but they're probably too destructive for hunting squirrels

    What the others have said and also, what groups great in my gun may not in yours. Pistols are touchier about preferences but I have a couple rifles that shoot great with one or two cartridges by brand but not worth a darn with a similiar style/type of another. Try a box of two or three brands. It isn't always the fastest or most expensive that a particular gun shoots well. One pistol I have shoots really well with the Winchester Wildcats, but my rifle just doesn't. There's really no short cut other than trial and error.

    I use match ammo on game for the pot - match ammo is standard velocity, won't expand, very accurate - it doesn't cycle all my semi-autos but in some it's fine - you just have to try it.

    Hej Don,
    you might even consider the .22 Short - A Inuit huntsman once told me that 22 Short was the best medicin for the polar bunny - the small shell din't make more noise than an average air-gun, and the remaining bunny's din't take much notice and stayed in the area - maybee that wil go for your squirrels as well.
