Shotgun-How can I tell if it is 2 3/4 or 3"-Ithaca

I have 3 Ithaca shotguns, and a bunch of barrels for Ithaca shotguns. All of the shotguns I have are for 2 3/4 shells.
I would like to get an Ithaca with a 3 inch chamber. Ithaca used to make a 3 inch chamber that was designated "mag" in the serial number-in the 80s.
But I think they started making ALL of their Model 37s with a 3 inch chamber, without a serial number that designated it as such(mag).

So how can I be certain that an Ithaca gun has a 3 inch chamber?
Serial number?
Will the measurement of the ejecting/loading port be larger on the 3 inch?
I called Ithaca before they closed, no one could give me an answer.

    I wouldn't be anxious to to risk an obsolete Ithaca 37 butt stock to magnum loads.
    They have a poor arrangement that applies shear loading, from the mounting bolt, parallel to the wood grain. I've noted a number of cracked Ithaca butt stocks from this.

    V#%- I actually have a composite stock that I "hope" to put on an Ithaca Model 37 3 INCH receiver.

    If you can have the gun in your hands,you could always just try to slip a 3" shell into it.

    IF IT IS CHAMBERED FOR 3" SHELLS IT WILL SAY SO ON THE BARREL

    BOBBYWINS... that is not good advice[:(]. All unfired 3" shells will slip right into a 2-3/4" chamber, and a 3" shell is only that length after it has opened up when fired. You really do not want to have a 3" shell try to open up in a 2-3/4" chamber... the results are not pleasant.

    Brownells can provide a chamber length gauge for any gauge shotgun chamber that allows you to determine actusl chamber length.

    That isnt necessarily true. ALL of the newer, interchangeable barrels are for 2 3/4 or 3 inch guns. I have barrels on my guns that say "2 3/4 or 3 inch", but the receiver itself only accepts 2 3/4

    if the bbl isnt the issue and its the receiver, a spent 3" mag hull measures 3" long. it order for it to clear the chamber during ejection (down), the port must be 3". measure the port to see if its 3". check the length on the carrier as well.
    now, correct me if im wrong, but isnt the extractor on the 37 bbl attached to the bbl? it should measure 3" from the chamber if its a mag so the flipping action wont take place too soon. follow me?
