Collectible and Military Ammo

i have recently come upon some ammunition and i dont know what its worth. if anyone can help me, or enlighten me, it would be greatly appreciated. i have the following military issued ammo. im just going to copy what it says on the box.

Ball Caliber .30 ANM2 Lot W.R.A. 23603 ammunition, 20 cartridges per box. all unopened.

Ball Carbine Caliber .30 MI Lot LC 12867 ammo, 50 cartridges per box, unopened.

Ball Caliber .45 M1911, Lot TW S 18542, 50 cartridges, all unopened.

Caliber .38 Special 130 Grain Ball M41, Lot RA 5288, 50 cartridges, unopened.

"Spam Can" Cal .45 Ball M1911 in cartons, 600 cartridges, Lot WCC 6440, unopened.

"Spam Can" Cal .30 Carbine Ball M1 in 10rd clips in bandoleers, Lot LC 13449, 600 cartridges, unopened.


also some other ammo are as follows:

Peters Rustless 45 Automatic Gov Model 230 gr, 50 smokeless cartridges,

Peters Rustless Police Match 45 Automatic 185 gr Metal Cased Wad Cutter, 50 cartridges

Winchester 45 Automatic 230 gr "Nickel Plated Case", 50 cartridges

Western Super Match 45 Automatic 210 gr smokeless powder, 50 cartridges

well, there's too much to list. but someone wants to buy all this from me and i dont know what to tell him. [:(] i tried to look on the web for any info on them but didnt get anything except that they're old. so if anyone can educate me a little on this stuff, i would be grateful. thanks.

    Yeah, *now* you apologize . . . wait til you see what I say about people who collect High Standards and shotguns. I suppose, given your advanced age and declining mental acuity, I should be charitable, though! [;)]

    Most of this is shooting ammo rather than collector material. It will be of some interest to the military collector who wishes to display correct original boxes with the firearms, but there is still plenty of it out there.

    Rough numbers, retail in single box quantities:
    .30 Ball, $10
    .30 Carb, $10 - $20
    .45 Auto, $10 - $20
    .38 M41, $10 - $15
    Spam cans $125 - $175

    Any collector value adhering to the commercial ammo will depend on the particular packaging scheme as well as the condition of the packaging & ammo. Typically, but not by any means universally, commercial ammo in the post WW2 era, and in particular from 1970 on, seldom commands any premium, and often is more of a discount shooting item.

    tyler, on reflection, in the interest of clarity, I should have noted out that *in bulk,* a buyer would expect to pay less per unit. You also have mail.

    While Iconoclast's estimates are realistic, keep in mind that ammo is really difficult to sell other than face-to-face, as shipping costs are so high. If you've got someone willing to take it all, I think 50-75% of the "real" value would be a win-win transaction.
