Winchester Model 37A ,20ga

Can't find the production date in any of my sources.

I'll give it a conservative 90%.

Any help on DOM would be appreciated.

I think they're a little high on it at $120,but maybe not.

    Hello BOBBYWINS,

    Are you sure on that serial number[?] Winchester only manufactured 395,168 of them from 1973 - 1980 at their Canadian plant in Cobourg, Ontario. Even if the serial numbers on the Model 37A were a continuation of the Model 370 (that it replaced), 860K is too high. Their were only 221,578 Model 370s manufactured (at the same plant in Canada), and when added together, the total is only 616,746.

    The $120 price tag is reasonable enough.

    I have no clue either. Unfortunately, very little information exists for the Canadian made Winchester firearms. My guess is that one serial number sequence was used for multiple models.

    Hello hedgehopper...

    You misread your book. There were just over 1 million Model 37s made, and it was discontinued in 1963 (not 1983). The original question concerns a Model 37A... which is not the same thing as a Model 37.

    I have all 3 models full sets 37 red letter,37 steelbuilt and 37A my winchester book copyright 1984 says total built 1,015,554 37A 1973-1981 the serial no. on my 37A 28 ga is 1,063,504 tks hedge

    Hello Hedghopper62... The book you have is incorrect[:(]. I suggest that you go buy yourself an updated version. The following information is contained in several different reference books;

    Model 37 - Introduced in the January 2, 1936 catalog, with the first delivery to warehouse stock taking place on February 10, 1936. Discontinued in 1963, with a listed total of 1,015,554 made. Never serialized. All production took place in New Haven, CO.

    Model 370 - Introduced in 1968 (as a replacement for the Model 37), last listed in the 1972 catalog, and dropped from the line in 1973. Total production was 221,578, and took place at Winchester's Cobourg, Ontario Canada plant.

    Model 37A - Introduced in 1973 as a replacement for the Model 370 (it was just a cosmetically jazzed up version of the 370). It was discontinued in 1980, with a total production of 395,168. Again, it was manufactured at Cobourg, Ontario.

    Out of curiousity, what is the exact title of the book to which you are steadfastly referring to?

    Ah hah... that explains it. George Madis' serial number reference book is absolutely full of errors. His updated version that covers from 1849 - 2000 (coprighted in 1999) is only marginally better. However, he did partially correct the information concerning the Model 37 in the later version. If you want a much better reference document, find a copy of Thomas Henshaw's book "The History Of Winchester Firearms 1866 - 1992" ISBN 0-8328-0503-8. I am sure that you will find the information contained in that reference document to be much more accurate.

    Forgot to add... there are no records for the Models 37, 370, and 37A at the Buffalo Bill Historical center in the Cody Firearms Museum. For what it is worth, I am a long time member of the Cody Firearms Museum[^]
