Remington 700 BDL SS DM
I have a Remington Model 700 SS DM in a .270. I have looked on Remington's web site but I dont seem to find it. Can any body tell me if they still make it and what it would be worth?

I don't have my books handy, but if I remember right, the DM option only added something like $30 to the value of the rifle. I have the same gun in .300 win mag and I actually don't like the DM near as much as I thought I would.
Shoot me an email (address is under my profile) if you are interested in selling it. I wouldn't mind having a non-magnum mate...

The DM feature was available for a couple of years after its introduction. The feature was so unpopular that Remington discontinued it. Public reasons for being discontinued: noisy, poorly fitted and the receiver guide rails were removed in manufacturing, which meant that those receivers could only be used for DM's. Remington makes great money by selling complete rifle that gunsmiths tear apart to make better rifles. Without the guide rails, there wasn't any other option than to use Remington's DM, which most folks didn't like.

i have a remington 700 BDL DM in 30-06, and i unfortunately lost the magazine (fell out in the woods). i never had a feed problem with it, but when i ordered a magazine to replace it, it came and it had 2 side releases on the magazine. my original did not have the side releases, but dropped by a single release at the front bottom of the magazine box in on the rifle. my rifle is 200 miles away at my parents' house right now, so i don't know if it will work, but already have my doubts. i went on remington's website and i only see the magazines with the side releases on the magazine. i bought the gun used (from the district attorney's evidence closet!) and have no paperwork, but it is stamped remington 700 on the barrel with a B in the serial number, and ADL didn't have the DM option. since you all have this rifle as well, do any of you know anything about the magazine i had, what it was called, or if someone modified my rifle along the way and i will have no clue what magazine to buy for it? 0 -
jdolso1: Don't know if they still make them or not but it adds little value to a gun unless you can find someone who really wants that feature. They really never caught on. Best I remember bambihunter is in the ballpark on what they cost extra.
johnfblake: I've never seen one with one release button ( I have a 30:06 BDL with DM ). All the factory mags I have are the double side release button type. I do have another aftermarket DM set up from Brown Precision that has one release button as you described........0 -

I think temblor states it correctly, Remington magazines always had the two side button release style. I could be wrong but I don't think so since these weren't on the market long enough for Remington to re-design and re-tool for a second design.
Since you are 200 miles away from the rifle, it's a bit difficult to assess what you really have as a magazine feature and pictures are definitely out of the question. So, we're stuck with a guessing game for the immediate period of time and you have to wait until you can get to the rifle to confirm anything.
There have been several versions of Detachable Magazines made for the Rem. 700 model rifles. There have even been some that were cobbled together by gunsmiths, I'm sure. Three that I can think of are:
H-S Precision (pricey but superb)
Whitetail Maunfacturing (discontinued)
Kwick-Klip (see Numerich Arms)
temblor states that Brown Precision had one available. Robbie Barkman at Robar offered the conversion of Rem. 700's for the use of M-14 magazines at one time. I'm fairly sure that this is not an option anymore since this conversion was a nightmare and very expensive to accomplish. There are more I'm certain but I can't think of them right now. Go to the Numerich website and the H-S Precision website to see what those two look like.

nononsense, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! as soon as i went to e-gunparts.com, the 700 kwick klip conversion was front and center on the site, they don't have the 4 round mag for sale on the site alone, but they do have a 10 rounder, i will call the company and see if they can just sell me the 4 round, if not, i'll buy the 10 round mag. up to the point i lost the magazine, i didn't have any problem with feeding with this conversion. so i guess if i had to tell anyone what conversion kit to buy, it would be this one, and for under $80, the price isn't bad either. just make sure your mag is seated properly before a long walk in the woods!!! 0
