.308 110 grain ultramax

anybody use these .308 110 grain ultramax .any good for deer ?vermits?.3100/2360ft.lbs.or what is a good light grain .308?

    never used it but i've used a 100 grain 243 on deer, and a 243 is like a necked down 308. im sure it would work just fine, just make sure you have good shot placement, thats the important part

    I just got back from S.D. a couple of weeks ago shooting them "dern vermits". I tried the Ultramax before I left and couldn't work up a load that was accurate enough. I was kind of expecting that. My 40x is a 1-10 twist and just had to much twist stablize the bullet. I did get better results (3" groups at 200) with my Spanish Mauser with the 1-12 twist, but that ain't no target rifle. I don't know what a good 1-12 rifle would do with them but I would like to know.

    I used my 173 grain long range loads on them little suckers and they blew up really good.

    The 110 gr. Sierra HP bullets are designed for varmints not deer. It's listed as the #2110 Varminter. The jacket material near the nose is thinner and the hollow point is bigger in diameter than a standard deer hunting bullet so it's more fragile and can blow up on the hide rather than penetrate for a clean kill. You end up wounding your deer and potentially losing it during the tracking. Use a bullet designed for deer hunting and leave the light bullets for the varmints.

    If you don't reload, Federal make several types of .308 ammunition for hunting deer as do most of the major manufacturers. Start with at least a 150 gr. hunting style bullet and don't forget that you can use the 165's and 180 gr. as well for the larger deer. I like Nosler Partitions and the newer AccuBonds along with Barnes TSX and Swift Scirocco.

    When I lived in Montana, I loaded Sierra 110gr HPs in my Ruger M77 30/06 for gophers/prairie dogs/groung squirrels. Worked good.

    For hunting I shoot a 150gr TSX. I have these loaded fairly mild so my wife, or whoever can shoot them without any ill reports. And wow do they work on deer! Most shots in our group are less than 50yds, nothing more than 250. For that you do not need a hard recoiling, magnum, WSM, SAUM, anything. In my opinion the 308 Win is the perfect deer round. In more open country I may slide to a 30-06, nothing more.
    With the right bullet, I prefer the Barnes TSX, you can hunt anything in this country with either of these calibers.

    I tried 110gr bullets in loads for my .300 Savage (very similar to the .308) Bottom line is that the 110 gr bullet bleeds velocity (and energy) way too fast to be any real use on deer-sized game at any real distance.
    My opinion, for what it's worth.
    My recommendation, if you want a little lighter bullet that you can put a little extra zip into, go with the Barnes TSX, 130gr
