Deciphering Remington's Serilization HELP!
I get very confused on how determining the age of a Remington Long Gun.
Firearms Idenification (Code located on barrel, left side at frame) Month of Manfacture (Code letter corresponds to numeral underneath). Addtional markings if present will indicate the following:
Yadda Yadda Yadda...Something about B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X, and then the Alphabet for Years...adn they repeat after Z.
....Sooo, is the "CODE" they mean the 1st Letter of the Serial Number, and last Letter? My head hurts trying to figure it out!

Hello,
First, try some aspirin... I have heard it works miracles for headaches[:D]
Second, the date code has NOTHING to do with the serial number... STOP looking at it so hard[:o)]
OK, now that I have you attention, go look for the date code on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver frame. It will be either a two-character or possibly three-character code. The first letter of the code which designates the Month of production will be one of the following - B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X, with B = January, L = February, and so on. The second letter (and possibly third) will denote the year of manufacture. In the case of some Models (those that have been in production greater than 26 years), the last character can indicate completely different years. You will need to know approximately when your Remington was originally purchased.
Somewhere I have an old post that lists all of the code letters and what year they represent... I will go dig through the archives for it, so please stayed tuned.

So..its not the Serial number?!!?
Ok, I'll check for the stamps on the left rear of the Barrel (not the receiver).
OH!..why can't Remington be like everyone else and just list such and such S/N 200,000 to 300,000 = 1975; 300,001 - 400,000 = 1976; ...etc... ?!!?

Not any kind of Remington guy, but November, 1953 would be my guess.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

It is a Remington Model 760 Pump Action 30-06, and it looks like its is from 1953!

Bert, Thats what I'm trying to figure out. Rem 1100 20ga, trying to find out if it's a STD (12ga frame) LT or LW barrel before I buy it.

My guess is March 1984. I do not believe that the date code on the barrel will tell anyone if it is a standard weight barrel or a lightweight. I would be looking at the length, choke, rib, and everything else first.
