TOOLX4,
There is a lot of this information in the archives which is where I pulled these links. Lots of good reading and opinions! If you want to read more, select a good search engine and type in "barrel break in" and there should be a bunch articles.

The best method I read (and use) is clean every shot for the 1st ten, every other for the next ten and every third for the next 15, waiting at least 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 8 minutes, respectively.Done properly, this should take at least 2 hours. Take a 22 or several something else's to play around with while waiting.
Of course you are sighting in and getting all the bugs worked out while doing this. I know everybody has a different way but this works well for everyone that I know that uses it.0 -
Keep in mind that you should clean absolutely every bit of copper out of the bore between shots. The last rifle I broke in took well over 40 hrs of cleaning...I really cannot remember exactly how long it took, but I know I had more than 40 hours in it. It cleans up quickly now though...one of the benefits of breaking it in. Be patient and good luck.
