33 Winchester
Anyone have any experience with a 33 Winchester caliber. I have my dads and he told me when I was a kid, it worked very well/

I have no actual shooting experience with the 33 Winchester and can only relate to you what the literature sayes about this caliber.
The following is from Cartridges of the World, 10th Edition:
"Introduced in 1902 for the Winchester Model 86 lever action rifle and discontinued along with the rifle in 1936. It was replaced by the 348 Winchester. It was also chambered in Marlin's Modle 95 lever action and Winchester Model 1885 single shot. The round became obsolete in 1940.
The 33 Winchester earned a good reputation as a deer, black bear, and elk cartridge when used in the woods at moderate ranges. Its paper ballistics are no better than the 35 Remington rimless, but it uses a samller diameter bullet with better section density than the 200 grain 35 caliber. It gave good penetration and satisfactory killing power when properly used. It is still a good cartridge for anything up to and including elk, and it can be improved safely with modern powders. In any case, it is not quite as powerful as the 348 and early Model 86 actions are not quite as strong as the Model 71. Cases can be formed from 45-70 brass."
Ballistics are on the order of: 200 grain bullet, 48.0 grains of H4895 powder, producing a muzzle velocity of 2200 fps and muzzle energy of 2150 ft-lbs.

In an original Model 1885 high-wall (with the standard 30-inch nickel steel barrel), it is real easy to reach velocities in the 2500 fps range. With the 200 grain JSP, it hits real hard at both ends[}:)][^]
