older h&r 38sw top break safe?

i have an older h&r top break revolver in 38sw,it has a broken trigger return spring so i ordered a new 1 from gunparts.hope i can put this thing back together (lol).i guess my question is if i get it back together are these guns safe too shoot?this gun is very tight.whay u think?thanks don

  I would stick to lighter loads, propellant changes over the years have made modern ammo tough on some older guns. The 38 S&W isn't too hot of a round anyways though, as long as the action and latch is tight I wouldn't forsee any issues. Might want to have a gunsmith check it over and make sure the timing on the cylinder is good

  Stay away from surplus 38 S&W. They are loaded hoter and with a heavier bullet.

  What they said.
  Also those flat springs tend to crystallize over the years. I once replaced a trigger return spring for a friend. While testing it all the others broke one at a time before I got thru with it.
