Removing GL from SKS rifle

Can the launcher piece be removed from
SKS rifles? Can it be done without going to a gunsmith?

Also, is it difficult to remove the attached bayonent?

  Not sure about the greande launcher, but the bayonet should be held on with just a single screw at the pivot.

  From what I understand, it is screwed onto fine threads and secured with silver solder. It can be unscrewed if heated with a torch first. I've never done this to mine because I actually use the launcher to launch grenades, but I've heard of it being done.

  Unless you live in CA, why would you want to? You are only going to kill all value of the gun. Sure they are worth on $80 now, but give them a few years. They will go up.

  Well, I'm not so concerned about the any possible future collector value. I just what to make the rifle lighter and a bit shorter for lugging aroung.
