Need info on Savage Sporter 22lr...
Beautiful walnut stock with schnabel end, bolt action with removeable mag, serial number 110762. Inside of barrel is clean, outside appears to have been reblued. Bought it at an auction tonight. Never seen one before, any info appreciated.

You have a model 23 or 23a. You can look it over and you'll know just about everything you need to.
I have a few and they're good shooters. They were made as the 23b in .25-20, 23c in .32-20, and 23d in .22 Hornet.
There's a good article about them in the book Bolt Action Rifles by Frank de Haas. If you don't have a copy handy email me with your address and I'll send you a print of the article.
Also the 23aa was a little up-graded with a faster lock time.0 -

23a-very good lil rifle-very accurate-mine especially likes the golden bullets-caution--if you had the model "a" the magazine can easily catch on branches and other objects and can fall out-this problem was corrected with the model "aa" it latches more securely. 0
